Gojinjo Daiko is a local performing art with a history of approximately 400 years, passed down in Nafune-cho, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. People wearing masks of demons and ghosts fiercely beat drums and dance with unique movements, a sight described as "terrifyingly intense," and it has been designated as an intangible folk cultural property of Ishikawa Prefecture.
Origin: In 1576, when Uesugi Kenshin's army invaded Nafune Village, the legend says that the farmers wrapped seaweed around their heads, wore masks, and beat drums to drive them away.
